Costumes for Your Eyes

Author: Keith Baxter!
You've got your Halloween costume all planned out, right from the funky footwear to the outlandish hairdo. You try it on a few weeks before Halloween to give it a test run and it hits you; there's still something missing but what? Look deep into your own eyes and you realize - you're all dressed up, but those are the same peepers that stare back at you from the mirror every day of the year. Maybe it's time to dress up your eyes!

The same technology that gave Darth Maul glowing red orbs in The Phantom Menace can give you a temporary eye makeover as well. Hollywood's special effects contact lenses aren't just for actors on the big screen. With a small investment ($66 and up, or $80 Canadian) you could have your own designer special effects eyewear. The costume lenses that you can buy for yourself are the same theatrical grade eyewear used in Hollywood films.

Whether your costume is Hollywood horror or a Halloween classic, the designer eyewear options are impressive - in non-prescription contacts and in corrective lenses as well. Coastal Contacts (Clearly Contacts in Canada) offers 36 different special lens styles, from their 'Inspired by the Movies' collection to their most popular designs and a full range of other special effects contact lenses.

For men and women donning spider gear this Halloween there's the Spidey lens (a black web over a red background) or the Spider Web (all white with a black web). The selection is extensive, mostly contacts that cover the iris and surround the pupil with unusual colors and shapes. Some of the other styles include Dark Wolf or Gremlin eyes, Angelic eyes, Cat Eyes and Vampire Red. You can also get lenses that cover the entire eyeball, like the Flames design or the Slither - a green eye with a horizontal, reptilian pupil.

Special effects contact lenses are designed to be comfortable and reusable - arresting and eye-catching without obstructing your vision. Ordering lenses online means you're not getting the personalized fitting service that comes with an office visit to an optometrist or eye care professional, so it's important to be conscious of how the contacts fit and feel. Don't wear lenses that cause you discomfort and pain, and never share your contact lenses with someone else.

And why would you want to share anyway? Special effects contact lenses are catching on but the number of people with a costume so complete is small yet, and you could still be the only one at the party with freaky and unforgettable eyes.
